Bible Study Series: Motherhood, Where It All Started, Genesis 1:26

MOTHERHOOD, WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

Genesis 1:26

THE MAKING OF MOTHERHOOD

Being a mother is more than having a baby. Having a baby makes

You are a mother. That does not always translate into motherhood.

All too often we have babies abandoned by their mothers.

All too often we have men abandoning the responsibility of

Being a father.

Motherhood was designed to be a partnership by the Lord.

Let\’s see what God says.

Genesis 1:26-27

26 Then God said, \”Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and overall the creatures that move along the ground.\”

27 So God created man in his own image,

in the image of God he created him;

male and female he created them.

The first order of Humanism was a collective design.

“Let us”. I assume that the “us” is God the Father, God the Son

And God the Holy Spirit.

What do image and likeness mean?

The likeness is from the Hebrew word demuwth which means a model or fashion

A model is not the real thing, but it looks like it.

What does image mean?

Image is from the Hebrew word  tselem which means resemblance

        Or representative figure.

Therefore,  human beings were a model of the Holy Trinity

Made as a representative figure.

THE DOCTRINE OF MOTHERHOOD

Female is the from the Hebrew word neqebah which means sexual form.

Male is from the Hebrew word zakar which means the most noteworthy sex.

The first humans were made to be like the Holy Trinity.

God’s first order of human relationships was male and female.

The first order of Motherhood is a male partner.

But not just any male.

God prepared the first man for marriage, for fatherhood.

Genesis 2:15-17

The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, \”You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.\”

Look at God’s preparation for motherhood.

  1. A living space, home, the Garden of Eden
  2. God gave Adam a job, work the garden
  3. Food to eat
  4. Food not to eat
  5. God Established a relationship with Adam; commands for him to live by
  6. God was the authority figure to Adam.

Everything Adam needed for survival; God provided.

THE TEACHING OF MOTHERHOOD

We must teach our daughters what to look for in a man

  1. The right man has a relationship with God.
  2. The right man has a job.
  3. The right man is responsible.
  4. The right man provides a place for the wife to live.
  5. The right man loves his wife unconditionally.

\”This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh”

We must teach our sons how to be a father.

  1. Any male can get a woman pregnant.
  2. That is no great accomplishment. Dogs have more dogs.
  3. We must teach our sons that sex produces children.
  4. With children comes responsibility.
  5. We must teach our sons to refrain from sex until

He is ready to be a father and a husband.

When is the right time for a man to consider marriage?

Follow the example God has given.

  1. When He has a relationship with God.
  2. When he is ready to follow the commands of God
  3. When he is ready to trust God to provide
  4. When He has a job.
  5. When He is responsible for money
  6. When He has a home to take a wife
  7. When he is ready to partner with his wife for the future

WHEN ARE YOU READY FOR MOTHERHOOD?

Men and women are ready for marriage when God puts them together

Genesis 2:18

The Lord God said, \”It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.\”

The right man and the right woman are put together by God to

Help each other.  Marriage is an equal partnership.

Genesis 2:21-22

So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man\’s ribs and closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

Why did God use a rib from Adam to form Eve?

BibleAsk.org states it this way;

Creating Eve specifically from Adam’s ribs sets the moral principle of marriage.  God didn’t take a bone from his head so she will not rule over him and He didn’t take a bone from his feet so he will not rule over her. Eve was to stand by Adam’s side as an equal. And he would love her and protect her as his own soul.  God accomplished the act in such a way that showed the woman was to complement and complete the man in the unity of marriage. They are both worthy of the privileges of salvation and God’s mercy. “There is neither . . . male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28). They become “heirs . . . of the gracious gift of life” (1 Peter 3:7).

(Bible Ask. Org)

When are a man and woman ready for marriage?  When they are ready to share the responsibilities of life as equals.

Genesis 2:23

The man said,

\”This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh;

she shall be called \’woman, \’for she was taken out of man.\”

When is a man ready to be a husband?   When he is ready to

Respect the woman as an equal partner.

How do you find the right partner?

Allow God to bring, him or her to you.

THE WORLD’S DEFINITION OF MOTHERHOOD

Men and women of God, you must understand that the world

Defines marriage as different from what God approves.

Every day you and I see TV shows where marriage is between two men

And marriage between two women.

Your children see marriage among families that are different from

What God teaches among their classmates. The world has

Legalized all types of marriages.

You have a choice in what you teach, God or the world.

THE RESPONSIBILITY TO TEACH MOTHERHOOD

We have parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles on this zoom call.

You may say that you have dealt with family and you know all this.

Because you have been there and done that, you have a responsibility

Pass your wisdom on to the next generation.

Ladies But you have another responsibility

Titus 2:3-5

3 Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4 Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.

As grandparents, we have the responsibility to influence our grandchildren

To do the right thing when they are in our care. Some of the best advice

You can get is wisdom from your grandparents.

From time to time I watch Marriage At First Sight. One of the key problems

Young couples have is not wanting to compromise or hear their spouse\’s points of view.

We must be humble enough to own up to our problems and mistakes.

Genesis 3:12-13

The man said, \”The woman you put here with me — she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.\”

13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, \”What is this you have done?\”

The woman said, \”The serpent deceived me, and I ate.\”

We are all just humans and we fail from time to time.

Thank God that He gives us more chances to get family

Right.  Thank God for ladies who take on the responsibility

Of motherhood.

Brothers, you may say this is an old hat and motherhood is a woman\’s job.

You are far from being right. Motherhood is your equal responsibility.

1 Timothy 5:1-3

5 Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were your father. Treat younger men as brothers, 2 older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity.

Brothers, you have a job to do first to the mother of your family and

Then to all the mothers, you come in contact with. It is your job

To encourage, build up, and support.

You were created first and entrusted with the Word of God first. You are the

Lead teacher of the family.

THANKS TO THE MOTHERS

To all the mothers, I say thank you. Each of you is unique.

You are wives, mothers, parents, teachers, and house cleaners

Councilors, planners, and the best cooks. You are all of these

Together at all times.  And you hold full-time jobs outside the

Home.

You are the strength of the family, the light of the community

And the directors of life.

No one can multitask like you. No one can love like you. No one

Can forgive like you. No one can console like you. No one is

More generous than you. No one is more tolerant than you.

No one can clean like you. No one dresses as pretty as you.

No one is more beautiful than you.

Some of you do motherhood all by yourself without the help

Of the fathers.

I want you to know that God has your back. He knew who you would

Pick as the father of your children. He knew some marriages would work

And some would not.  He knew the strength you would need to do

Motherhood and He provides it to those who trust Him. God

Loves mothers and he loves your devotion to family.

The family started with you and continues with you. Though it all

You persevere through the trials and tribulations of life,

Presenting the world with the next doctors, lawyers, teachers,

Scientists, and presidents.

I Thank God for motherhood and all mothers
