WHEN GOD GETS UPSET, Genesis 6

WHEN GOD GETS UPSET
Genesis 6

Genesis 6:1-9

1 When men began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. 3 Then the Lord said, “My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days will be a hundred and twenty years.”

4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days — and also afterward — when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.

5 The Lord saw how great man’s wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. 6 The Lord was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain. 7 So the Lord said, “I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth — men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air — for I am grieved that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.

When I consider the text that God was grieved and has His heart filled with
Pain and destroyed His prized creation, man, I asked the question Why?
God knows the end from the beginning. He is all-knowing.

In my mind, God set the stage for man to sin. He created Lucifer, a Chreub
Angel. He allowed the cherub to sin and corrupt ⅓ of all the angels He created. He cast Lucifer out of his heavenly place, renamed him Satan.
He allowed Satan into the Garden of Eden where He made Adam and Eve who were corrupted by his deception.

The second question is why God allowed sin in His perfect creation.
God proclaimed in Genesis 3 that Jesus would be the Savior who will deal a fatal blow to Satan’s head.

God does not give us all the answers, but He gave us a mind to think. Reason and ask questions. He put His Word in print for our knowledge
And wisdom. He made it known to Adam and Eve that He demands obedience

He gave Adam one command. Do not eat from the Tree Of Knowledge Of
Good And Evil. The day you eat from that tree is the day you die.

In that one command is the whole of the Bible
God Demands Obedience
Man was given the knowledge of right and wrong
Disobedience corrupts the mind
God demands that He be first in our lives
God demands our love for Him be first, above all others
God demands righteousness for eternal life.

Let me suggest that God allowed sin and hardship to bring
Man to willful obedience. From Adam to Noah was 1056 years.
According to what algorithm you use over 400 plus millions
people could have been born on earth.

Once sin entered mankind, Satan had a foothold on man’s mind.
After Adam and Eve, man became increasingly sinful and grieve the
Lord.
Ephesians 4:30
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

Point 1. Don’t follow the crowd, they are usually lost
Point 2. No matter how sinful the world is, God has an unknown number
Of faithful followers.

The world had become sinful but Noah was righteous. Not only that, Noah trained His sons and wives to be faithful to God.
2 Peter 2:5-6
If he (GOD) did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others;

As far as I know, between Adam and Noah, God had not given any new commands. He set the stage for blood sacrifice for sin and required a sacrificial offering, which set up Praise and Worship. Eve gave the Lord thanks for the birth of her sons.

After Adam and Eve ate from the Tree Of Knowledge Of Good And Evil
All generations are born with a knowledge of right from wrong.
Genesis 3:22
And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil.

Point 3 Not reading the Bible is no excuse for sin. We all inheritanced
A knowledge of good and evil from Adam and Eve.

In verse 6:1-2 we see the elements of sin; lust of the eye, lust of the flesh,
And the pride of life. Men saw women, they were beautiful, and took them as wives. Man was blessed to multiply but did so in a sinful nature rather than the righteousness of God. Small acts of sin lead to multiple sins with no remorse.

Point 4. Sin shortens your life.
Up to the time of Noah, man lived 900-plus years. After Noah, because of man’s sin, the life span was reduced to 120 years. Sin not only destroys lives, but it blocks love, joy, and peace.

Point 5. Sin can grow to a point of no return.
When God removes his hand, He let man die in sin

4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days — and also afterward — when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.

The Nephhilim were men tall in stature, strength and a reputation for sinful
Acts. Notice the sin against the Bride of man, his glory which should have been his honor. Instead of one wife multiple wives maybe indicated.
Some theologians believe the Nephhilim were fallen angels as depicted
In Jude
Jude 6-7
6 And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their own home — these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day. 7 In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion.

Point 6. God hates sin, not man, but will destroy man in his sin

Genesis 6:9-18
Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God. 10 Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

11 Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence. 12 God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways. 13 So God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth. 14 So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out. 15 This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high. 16 Make a roof for it and finish the ark to within 18 inches of the top. Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle and upper decks. 17 I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish.
NIV

When God gets angry, in His wrath He can destroy all the people of the earth at one time. Because men were sinful, they causes a curse of the animals of the earth. God uses nature to destroy man. God used the flood to destroy sinful man and all animals. The original reading of the text was God would wipe man and animals from the face of the earth. The flood way of washing or cleaning the sins of the world.

Today the sins of man are baptized in the blood of Jesus Christ. The
Flood was a preluded the coming of Christ.

Point 7. God does not call the qualified, He qualifies the ones He call.

Noah was commanded to build a big boat called the Ark. At that time
There were no shipbuilding schools. God gave Noah the exact dimensions
Of the boat, including the building material.

GOD DESIGNS THE BEST FOR BELIEVERS
14 So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out. 15 This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high. 16 Make a roof for it and finish the ark to within 18 inches of the top.

God must have revealed to Noah more information on the construction of the ark. The size and length of the beams are not given. The size and
Number of rooms are not given. Was the ark to be flat bottom or curved.
No sails or steering mechanism was specified.

The dimensions given could have easily been a three story floating box. It was not designed to sail anywhere but to float on water. According to the dimensions engineers determined it designed to carry 81000 tons

Noah was 500 years old when He got the command to build the ark (Genesis 5:32). Noah was 600 years old when he and family entered the ark (Genesis 7:6)

Point 8, Salvation is based on our faith and obedience in the Word of God

Lessons from Noah
Stay attuned with God through Bible study and continuous prayer
Be obedient to God’s commands
Train your children in the Word of God
Acknowledge God in all your ways
Act promptly on God’s commands
Trust God to reveal to you how to do what you have no experience
Trust God to provide all the resources you need to complete the task
Start the job with what you have available to you
Work with diligence and endure the time and effort to complete the assignment
Completion of God’s work is assured by faith

Genesis 6:16-22
Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle and upper decks. 17 I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish. 18 But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark — you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you. 19 You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you. 20 Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive. 21 You are to take every kind of food that is to be eaten and store it away as food for you and for them.”

22 Noah did everything just as God commanded him.
NIV

Noah’s obedience: —

I. THE RULE OF NOAH’S OBEDIENCE. “All that God commanded.” Mankind need a rule for their conduct.

1. It should come forth from God, and have the Divine sanction.
2. It should be practicable in its requirements.
3. It should be plain and circumstantial in its phraseology.
4. It should be beneficial in its results.

II. THE NATURE OF NOAH’S OBEDIENCE. “So did he.”

1. Noah’s obedience was pious in its principle.
2. Prompt and decided in its acts.
3. Laborious in its exercise.
4. Universal its extent.
5. Persevering in its course.
6. Successful in its object.
