THE BLESSINGS OF INTERCESSORY PRAYER

Exodus 34:27-35

BACKGROUND
After breaking God’s covenant by worshipping the golden
calf, Moses went back to the mountain and successfully
interceded for Israel in the present of God. Moses asked
And receives the promise of God’ continued favor with
Israel,

God called Moses back to the top of the mountain to
renew the covenant with Israel by replacing the two stone
tablets and reinforcing His commands.

GOD’S GRACE AND MERCY
God proclaimed His grace and mercy to Moses in the
Following verses

Ex 34:5-7
Then the Lord came down in the cloud and stood there with him and proclaimed his name, the Lord . 6 And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, \”The Lord , the Lord , the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, 7 maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation.\”

THE HOLY WORD
V:27 Then the Lord said to Moses, \”Write down these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.\” 28 Moses was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights without eating bread or drinking water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant — the Ten Commandments.
A. These “words” that Moses was instructed to write are included in
Exodus chapters 25-31.
1. God’s commands to Israel include worship, required sacrifices
and every day living instruction.
B. The prayers of a righteous man accomplishes much.
1. Moses prayed to the Lord for the atonement of Israel because
they willfully broke covenant with Him.
2. The Lord heard Moses prayer and renewed the broken
covenant.
3. This is an example of the importance of your prayers.
C. We should not be to quick to end our prayers with Lord.
1. Moses was in the presence of the Lord for forty days and
forty nights.
2.We should prepare our mind and bodies to meet with the Lord.
3. Moses sacrificed his physical need for food and water for 40
days.
4. Humans can go without food for three weeks and without water
for about 4 days.
D. When we are focused on God we can do the super natural.
1. We serve a supernatural God.
2. The first stone tablets were provided by God.
3. The second stone tablets Moses was instructed to carve out of
stone and bring up the mountain to God/
4. God does not tell us, but I suggest that Moses learned the
important of being careful of God’s works.
5. Moses broke the first tablets out of anger when he saw
Israel worshipping the golden calf
6. The first tablet was all God.
7. The second tablets were a collaboration between God and Moses
Moses carved the tablet, God wrote the words.

LET THE GLORY OF GOD SHINE IN YOUR LIFE
V:29 When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the Testimony in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the Lord . 30 When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, his face was radiant, and they were afraid to come near him.
A. When we have been with Lord in prayer and meditation, we ought
To come away with a Word of hope, joy, peace and commitment.
1. The Word is one of encouragement and hope.
2. When we study the Word we ought sparkling with confidence
3. First we must believe that the Word is speaking directly to
you.
4. We must believe that the Word was given for your edification.
B. Moses radiant face authenticated the message from God
1. His radiant face reflected the glory of God.
2. His radiant fact indicated that he was placed in a position of honor.
3. His radiant face indicated God’s divine authority.
4. Moses radiant face was a forerunner of Christ transfiguration
Matthew 17:2-5
5. His radiant face indicated the present of God
C. The stone tablets indicated the renewal of the covenant with
Israel
1. There was a difference between the first two stone tablets
and the second set of stone tablets.
a. The first set was all God.
He carved the tablets out of stone and He wrote the
commandments on the tablets.
b. The second set of stone tablets were a collaboration between
God and Moses.
Moses carves the tablets and took them up the mountain to
God.
God wrote the commandments on the tablets.
2. Since the second set of tablets had man involvement, God’s
trust in Israel was broken.
a, God left room for Israel continued sin and subsequent need
for intercessory prayer.
b. God continues to remind us that we are a stiff necked, hard headed
people in need of an intercessor.
C. We ought to reverence the pastor God has placed in charge of us.
1. He has the power of intercessory prayer,
2. God places on his heart to use us as co partners in the ministry.
3. It is to our good to serve under the leadership of pastor
chosen by God.

DON’T MISS THE MESSAGE BY WALKING AWAY
V:31 But Moses called to them; so Aaron and all the leaders of the community came back to him, and he spoke to them. 32 Afterward all the Israelites came near him, and he gave them all the commands the Lord had given him on Mount Sinai.
A, It is the job of the pastor to teach the Word of God.
1. He is responsible to teach all the Word, not just that which
pleases us.
2. It is our job to show up to be taught.
B. The Word will convict us of our sins.
1. We should welcome the chastisement of the Lord.
2. God chastise those He loves.
3. We should not run form the Word, but run to the Word.

THE IMPORTANTS OF MOSES’ VEIL
V:33 When Moses finished speaking to them, he put a veil over his face. 34 But whenever he entered the Lord \’s presence to speak with him, he removed the veil until he came out. And when he came out and told the Israelites what he had been commanded, 35 they saw that his face was radiant. Then Moses would put the veil back over his face until he went in to speak with the Lord .
A. The Apostle Paul gives us light as to the purpose of the veil that
Moses wore.

THE LAW CONDEMNS
2 Cor 3:7-10
7 Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, fading though it was, 8 will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious? 9 If the ministry that condemns men is glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness!

GRACE SAVES
2 Cor 3:12-15
Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold. 13 We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to keep the Israelites from gazing at it while the radiance was fading away. 14 But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away.

The law does not save, but brings death
The law condemns, but grace saves.
No man has ever been able to keep the law. But Christ fulfilled all
the requirements of the Law.

2 Cor 3:16-18
But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord\’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

MOSES A TYPE OF CHRIST
We are indeed blessed to be called before the foundation of the earth to
Be in Jesus. Ephesians 1:4

We witness through the scriptures the work God did through Israel to make
possible our salvation in Jesus Christ.

Moses was a type of Christ
1. He was a deliverer
2. He was a kinsman redeemer
3. He was an intercessor
4. He was warrior for God
5. He was a teacher
6. He was dedicated to the Father
7. He was a governor
8, He had compassion on the nation
9. He was unselfish
10 He showed his love by following God’s commands
11. He was the good shepherd.
