WAITING ON THE LORD
Isa 40:28-31
28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD , the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.
29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Verse 28, God describes who He is. He is omnipotent, the all powerful creator.
He is omnipresent… to the ends of the earth
He is omniscience….. No searching of His understanding
Verse 29 God describes His relationship to believers, His relationship to us. He gives us power and strength
Verse 30 God describes the failure of the world. Those who
Reject Him. They faint, they get weary, they fail
I want to spend my time this morning on verse 31.
31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
The BUT refers to those who reject God
At the same time the BUT refers to the reward of those who accept Christ as their personal savior.
In this case BUT is a transition word. From failure that results
From not relying on Christ to success that results from relying
on Jesus.
The “they” involves every believer. No one is excluded.
It is a select group, because believers are involved.
It is a selective Group, because you were chosen before the
Foundation of the world to be in Christ Jesus,
Once in Jesus, you cannot get away from Him because you have
been sealed to the day of redemption.
The word “wait” is not a passive word, It not just sitting down,
until something to happen.
We have to learn to wait. We have learned to be impatient
We want it our way and we want it now.
If you cannot wait, you become anxious.
Not waiting leads you to become impulsive.
When you become impulsive, you will settle for any thing
that will ease the pain.
There is always two outcomes. There is an outcome that just
Gets you by, Then there is the best outcome that come from the
Lord.
Waiting gives you time to think clearly
Waiting gives you time to consider the alternatives
Waiting gives you time to hear from the Lord
Waiting gives you time for Holy Spirit Guidance.
God has something special for you that you can
Only get by waiting.
The word wait is a Hebrew word qavah which means bind
together or twisted together. When you are twisted up in the
Lord, you take on His thought.
When you are twisted up in the Lord, you will act like Him
When you are twisted up in the Lord you will follow Him.
The wait is one of expection. Expecting God to step in when you
Cannot handle the situation. Expecting God to be the doctor in
the hospital. Expecting God to be lawyer in the court room.
Expecting God to be what you need when you need it
The word wait implies trust. Putting all your trust in the Lord
And no one else. Relying on God to guide you through trouble
Waters.
This waiting is not on just anybody, it is the Lord.
The Lord is describing a marriage relationship
A binding that cannot be separated.
The But implies working things out for yourself
The but implies trusting on somebody or something other
the Lord
31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
God gives us four reasons for waiting on Him,
I. Renewed strength
The word renew means to change, to grow up.
Take off the old clothes of weakness and put on the new
Clothes of God’s power. I can do all things through Christ who
Strengthen me.
We are talking about mental strength. We talking about physical
Strength, We talking about spiritual strength. The change does
not come from me, its from the Lord.
2 Cor 4:15-17
15 For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.
16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
The first reason to wait or be twisted up in the Lord is
Renewed Strength
The second reason to be twisted up in the Lord, is to mount
up with wings as eagles.
31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Lets talk about eagles, Lets talk about eagles. Can we talk about Eagles?
You know eagles don’t have to flap their wings to fly. Theirs
Wings are so heavy if they do to much flapping they die.
Here’s what eagles do, they soar. They wait for thermal winds to
Come up in the atmosphere. These are big gust of wind.
They spread out their wings and ride the wind currents.
Some time they may have to wait for days for thermal winds
But They wait on the power of God
Whenever you see an eagle, he ain’t flapping, He soaring
You know an eagle can soar as high as 30,000 feet in the air.
What we do most is flap around trying to do things on our
On power, wasting energy .
We have learn to quit flapping and soar on the power of the
Holy spirit. You remember the day of Pentecost. When the Holy
Spirit fill the room like sound of a mighty rushing wind.(Acts 2
The disciples received the power of the Holy Spirit.
That change, that renewal is getting out of self and getting in
the Holy Spirit. God is spirit, they that worship the Lord must
Worship Him in spirit and truth.
If You want to go higher in this world, learn to be led by the Holy
Spirit.
When you are led by the Holy Spirit, you are soaring at a higher
Altitude. You are moving closer to God. You are moving closer
To His power.
One more thing about eagles. They fly alone. They don’t hang
With the crowd. All you need is Jesus. You don’t need a crowd.
You and Jesus is a majority. Buzzards can fly as high as eagles,
But they fly in a crowd. They eat the road kill. They digest the
dead.
We serve a God of the living. Not the dead.
God gives us fresh grace and mercy each day,
So we can soar like an eagle on winds of the Holy Spirit
One more thing about eagles. They mate for life. A commitment
In Jesus is an eternal commitment. Once in Jesus you can’t get
out.
You are Sealed to the day of redemption .
Once you give your life to Jesus, He takes charge
Eagles make their nest in high place. We serve a God who sits
high and looks low. He is an all seeing.
The Lord never lose focus on us
Another thing about eagles, they can see their prey up to five
Miles away. They that wait on the Lord will have spiritual insight
Far better than any eye sight. They that wait on the Lord has His
knowledge about situations. When you tuned into God you are
tuned into His divine presence. He will steer you into the right
places at the right time. He will steer you away from places that
are harmful.
They that wait on the Lord are all seeing.
31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
There is a difference between walking and running.
III. Let me suggest that the walk is the day to day living.
The steps of a good man/woman are ordered by the Lord.
It is the day to day grind of family work and community,
Family, work and community. Family work and community
Can take a toll on you. They that wait, they that are bound
To the Lord, will walk and not faint.
Can you look like Jesus doing family. Can you look like Jesus
Doing work. Can you look like Jesus doing community,
How are you going to face tomorrow when there trouble today.
Luke 18:1
18 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
The day to day walk with God is a walk in prayer.
Phil 4:6
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
The first reason to wait or be twisted with Lord is Renewed Strength
The Second reason to be twisted with the Lord Soaring on the winds
Of the Holy Spirit
The third reason is to Walk and not faint
The Fouth Reason id Run and not get weary
Everyone has been gifted to run the race. Everyone has been
Gifted to serve God.
Rom 12:6-9
We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man\’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to hisb faith. 7 If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; 8 if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.
Running the race is doing what God call you to do.
What God called you to do has to do with your gifts
Being twisted up in the Lord, you have adequacy equipped
To finish the race
Heb 12:1-2
2 Therefore let us also, seeing we are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
All believers are in the race. I don’t have to run at your pace
All of us are going to finish the race at God’s appointed time.
Isa 40:31
31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
You have already been declared a winner. No way to lose
When you are Twisted up in the Lord.
